Please note that our office policy states that
anyone under the age of 18 should be
accompanied by a parent or a legal guardian. This
is to protect you and your children.
If you are coming to our office for your first,
non-emergency appointment, you should expect to
have radiographs (xrays) taken and a
comprehensive exam done. If you have
radiographs taken at another dental office, it
always helps to bring them with you or have them
forwarded before your first visit.
The type and number of radiographs (xrays)
taken can vary from patient to patient and
depends on the condition of your teeth and gums
and your past history of dental radiographs. The
following link can explain some of the questions
and concerns you may have regarding dental
radiographs (xrays). Rest assured that we do
everything we can to minimize the risk of dental
radiographs. We always use a lead apron with a
thyroid collar to cover most of your body and use
higher speed films to minimize the amount of
radiation. Illinois Department of Nuclear safety
routinely evaluates and certifies our equipment for
safety and effectiveness.
We will do our best to fit a dental cleaning at your
first visit. However, please understand that this
may not be possible. The initial visit is used to get
to know you and your mouth. It is the most
important appointment in our opinion. We believe
educating you about your oral health is the most
important step in accomplishing our common goal
of optimum oral health. At your first apointment,
we will :
1- Go over your medical history to see if any
medical condition you may have or medicine you
may take would interfere with our future dental
treatment. A medical consult over the phone by
your physician may be necessary.
2- Examine your mouth and record all of our
findings on your chart.
3-Check for oral cancer.
4-Screen for periodontal disease (gum disease).
5- Use an intra-oral camera (at no extra charge) to
show you pictures of your teeth while we go over
our findings. Patient education material is used to
enhance your understanding of different dental
conditions and treatment.
6- Discuss treatment options and help you choose
the best possible option for you.
7- Discuss fees and payment options.
8- Answer any questions you may have.
9- Schedule your next appointment.
10- Perform a cleaning if possible.
